Biographic:
Fr. Joseph M. Benedict, S.T.D. is pastor of St. Joseph Parish and rector of the Cathedral Basilica of San Jose. A native of New Mexico he completed undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and continued graduate studies in engineering at University of New Mexico.
He completed his Masters in Divinity at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park and was ordained by Bishop Pierre DuMaine in 1997 for the Diocese of San Jose. He served as a parochial vicar in St. Lucy Parish in Campbell and St. Francis of Assisi in San Jose and was pastor of St. William Parish in Los Altos. He holds a doctorate in sacred theology from Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. His major field of study was moral theology with an emphasis in biomedical ethics. He has lectured at St. Patrick’s Seminary and in the Graduate Program of Pastoral Ministries at Santa Clara University. He continues to serve the Diocese of San Jose as director of deacon formation.
