Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Michael Chabon wrote: “America’s artists are the guardians of the spirit of questioning, of innovation, of reaching across the barriers that fence us off from our neighbors, from our allies and adversaries, from the six billion other people with whom we share this dark and dazzling world… Art increases the sense of our common humanity.”
From the cowboy songs of the old West through the jazz and ragtime romps of the early 20th Century; from the breakthrough of America’s first acclaimed woman composer to the nostalgic tunes of transplanted cultures, we find a rich and diverse art reflective of the great American spirit of adventure, courage and humor!

Back by popular demand, we welcome the return of Quinteto Quilombo for an exciting exploration of the life and music of Astor Piazzolla. Fusing the tango music of his native Argentina with classical and jazz, Piazzolla created a genre all his own. Never wavering from his ideal, he spent five decades battling both skeptics from the classical world and purists from the tango world. This program will explore the intersections of Piazzolla’s contrasting worlds, ending with a set of his tangos performed in his original quintet instrumentation.
ARTISTS: Seth Asarnow, Bandoneon / Ertan Torgul, Violin / Paul Binkley, Electric Guitar / Aileen Chanco, Piano / Bill Everett, Double Bass
PRE-CONCERT LECTURER: Bill Everett
PROGRAM: Quintets by A. Piazzolla and more.
