St. Joseph Cathedral Basilica is a San Jose landmark. This beautiful 600-seat cathedral is acoustically ideal for the beautiful music played by orchestras, the glorious sound of the acapella choir, or the sound of baroque music. St. Joseph Cathedral has many wonderful instruments available to the performance group. We can offer the use of three harpsichords (Italian single, German double, and French single), a Yamaha 9' grand piano, and our beautiful Odell tracker Organ. The Cathedral is not a traditional performance venue: the seating is in the round. We are located in the downtown area of San Jose right across the street from the Fairmont Hotel. Parking is limited on weeknights, but is free on weekends. Maps of parking lots are available on request. Cathedral criteria and use standards: The liturgical furnishings in the Cathedral cannotbe adapted for any non-liturgical activity or use by any participant. These furnishings include thecentral Altar, auxiliary Altars, Eucharistic Altar, Ambo, Bishop's chair and presbyterial bench. The liturgical furnishings are permanent placements and are to remain visible as symbols of Catholic faith and worship. Customary music stands, chairs, risers, and podia for choirs and musicians may be introduced into the Cathedral for non-liturgical use. No platforms, however, may be introduced into the Cathedral which would require affixing to the flooring, or walls, or which in any way may impede ingress, or egress of the facility. Protective carpeting must be installed under all fixtures, and furniture temporarily installed to prevent marring of the floor finishes.
